What Is a Barcode Extractor?
A barcode extractor does two jobs.
First, it scans the barcode and reads the number or text stored in it. Second, it separates the black bars from the background and saves them as a standalone image.
This is useful when your source image is a screenshot, a product photo, or a scan with a messy background. You get the data and a ready-to-use graphic without any editing software.
How to Use the Barcode Extractor
- Click Upload and choose an image that contains a barcode.
- Wait a moment while the tool scans it.
- Check the Detected Format (for example, EAN_13) and the Extracted Data.
- Click Copy Data to copy the number.
- Adjust the color, tolerance, or background setting if you want a different look.
- Click Save PNG to download the clean barcode image.
- Click Upload New Barcode to start again with another image.
Features Explained
Output Barcode Color
This setting recolors the extracted bars. The default is black, which works best for scanning.
You can pick another color to match a design or brand. Keep the color dark, though. Scanners need strong contrast between the bars and the background.
Extraction Tolerance
This slider controls which pixels count as “bar” and which count as “background.” It runs from 0 to 255. The default is 128, the midpoint.
- Lower value: only very dark pixels are kept. Use this if the background is leaking into the result.
- Higher value: lighter pixels are also kept. Use this if the bars look thin, broken, or faded.
If the result looks off, move the slider in small steps and watch the preview change. You are aiming for solid bars with a clean background.
Maintain Transparent Background
When this is checked, the saved PNG has no background. Only the bars (and any text that was captured with them) remain.
This is helpful when you want to place the barcode on a label, package design, or document. Uncheck it if you want a solid background instead.
